Monday Oct 23, 2023
This week the boys are joined once again by DASEIN AKA Brandon Say to give us an update on his upcoming new music release and films of 1976, featuring Roman Polanski’s follow-up to Chinatown, THE TENANT. After a spoiler-free mini review of KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, we discuss this chiller about paranoia that makes you wonder a lot of things, namely why everyone in Paris in 1976 has an American accent.

Dave and John break the Quantum Leap rules and travel outside their own lifetimes to experience Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo from 1958. Jeff was unable to time travel this week due to high mercury levels from airport sushi which makes the big question will two hosts who almost never agree on films agree on this one in a head to head discussion.

Martin Scorsese’s After Hours: Films of 1985
Monday Oct 09, 2023
Monday Oct 09, 2023
1985. Continuing with our random year generator, ahead of Killers of the Flower Moon, the boys head to Martin Scorsese's mid-80s crisis of faith when he hated Reagan, film studios, and couldn't get The Last Temptation of Christ made. So he made After Hours, a Hitchcock-inspired puzzle of a neo-noir shotgun indie that defines what a midlife crisis can be for a film maker. It's also apparently a comedy! We discuss our favorite Marty's, his conversations about the state of cinema, and this surprising film.

Monday Aug 28, 2023
Monday Aug 28, 2023
This week two F1 fans and a gamer head back to the theaters on $4 movie day (& Dutch Gran Prix day) to discuss GRAN TURISMO: Based on a True Story (2023). Directed by Neill Blomkamp, written by Jason Hall, and Zach Baylin with a story credit for Alex Tse, the film stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Geri Horner aka Ginger Spice, Dijon Hounsou, and Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenbororough, the real life gamer-turned-racer who served as his own stunt double for this film! We had a lot of fun and enjoyed this while also calling out some of the formula. Take a ride with us! Dave also talked a bit about Blue Beetle.

We gave them all consideration. We debated historical and cultural importance, what was the better "movie", what made the most money, and we set up dozens of head-to-head battles that all come down to this episode. This Mother’s Day weekend Dave, John, and Jeff gush about Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, the sensational second feature film by writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig, adapted from the 1970 novel by Judy Blume. Starring Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, as three generations of ladies in this coming-of-age teen dreamed about accepting religion, friends, and the tribulations of adolescence, it’s honestly hard to talk about this movie without gushing about it, so please crack open a beer and get into the discussion with us!
We also gripe about producers messing over writers despite having (and losing) billions of dollars, as well as pharmacy stores a la CVS and Duane Reade locking up all of their supply but then their staff being nowhere when you need anything… something has to be done before Amazon swallows them up!

Guardians of the Galax Vol. 3 + Writers’ Strike Thoughts
Monday May 08, 2023
Monday May 08, 2023
This week Jeff, John, and Dave discuss Guardians vol. 3. After we make some jokes and talk about the Writer’s Strike, we drink beer and try to keep it positive, having fun talking about movies! With writer/director James Gunn back and flying mostly solo, he gives the team the send-off we may want and deserve even if Marvel won’t let him follow through on. Rocket Raccoon gets his backstory, Peter Quill shares the spotlight after all the stuff from 1 and 2, Mantis and Drax continue their awesome chemistry from the Holiday Special, Kevin Bacon doesn’t get a single mention, Gamora and Nebula are still doing their thing, Adam Warlock and his… foster mom?… make a comedic appearance after drinking some of that Russel Crowe wine from Thor: Love & Thunder, and the villain does a great job as the 12th Marvel villain who wants to fix the world, not just destroy it (the writer of this didn’t read the comics).

Sisu (2022-ish) with film’s star Jack Doolan!!
Monday May 01, 2023
Monday May 01, 2023
This week we welcome one of the stars of Sisu (2022) Jack Doolan to discuss this incredible, fun, kick-ass film that just released wide in the USA, and man does it pack more than a few punches in its tight 91 minutes. Jack plays a Nazi soldier who operates as the tank gunner and second in command to a brutal SS officer (Aksel Hennie) attempting to rob a rugged gold miner (Jorma Tommila) in the Finnish wilderness in 1944. That was a really bad decision by them. While this movie doesn’t shy away from the brutality of WWII, it’s fun, funny, badass, and gives you something to root for. Directed by Jamari Helander, this movie crushed at TIFF and got distributed by Lionsgate and it just rules. It’s in over 1,000 screens so get your friends to see it as soon as possible!
